How to Draw A Cartoon Rose – Let's Get Started!
Step 1
Roses are known for their complex petal structure, and this can make them quite a headache to draw!
When working on your cartoon rose drawing, we would recommend taking it nice and slowly and carefully following the images we provide.
We will start at the center of this particular rose, and you will get a sense of the twisty shape of these petals.
To make things easier on yourself, you could enlarge the image and draw it section by section. You can also use a pencil and then go over with your pen when you're happy with how it looks!
Step 2 – Now, draw some larger petals
We will simplify things for a bit in this second step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon rose. For now, we will draw some larger petals onto the flower.
These will go on either side of the flower, and they will have some rounded outlines. Then, we will use some wavier lines for the inner edges of these larger petals.
This is another step where you should definitely try to closely replicate the details we laid out in our example.
Step 3 – Next, draw the final petals
This third step will focus on adding the final petals for the flower. These new petals will form a sort of base for the petal section of the rose.
We will be drawing three large, rounded petals for this section of the flower, and there will also be some wavy detail lines inside of the petals.
Once you have drawn these petals, we will be ready to move on to the next section of the flower, which will be the stem.
Step 4 – Now, draw the stem of the flower
The petals for your cartoon rose drawing are complete, and now we will focus on the stem of the flower. To draw this stem, we will first add a small section beneath the petals of the flower.
This section will be drawn using some curved lines that culminate in some pointy tips, three to be exact.
Then, the stem itself will come down from this section. The stem will be drawn using some curved lines extending down.
The lines will curve to the right, but you could make them bend to the left or even extend straight down if you prefer.
Once you have drawn the stem, you will be ready for some final details in the next step of the guide!
Step 5 – Add the final details to your drawing
You've finished the trickiest parts of this guide on how to draw a cartoon rose, and in this step we will add some leaves onto the stem.
There will be two clumps of leaves, and each one will be attached to its own individual stem. Start by drawing these smaller stems coming off the sides.
Then, we will add three leaves of varying sizes onto these stems. Each one will have some veins inside, and then you're done with this step!
Before you proceed to the final step, you could add your own touches to the image.
These could be small details such as holes on the leaves or maybe some bugs, or they could be bigger like a pretty garden background.
These are just a few ideas, but there are infinite possibilities! This is where you can really express your creativity as you show us the incredible ideas you have for this image.
Step 6 – Finish off your drawing with color
Roses are most commonly associated with the color red, and that is the color we went with in this example image.
We used various shades of warm, beautiful reds throughout the petals. By changing up the shades, you can create some shading depth for the image.
Then, we used some beautiful greens for the stem and leaves.
While this is a classic look for a rose, they also come in many other colors! You have many options available to you when finishing off this rose.
You could keep the colors nice and realistic or create your very own incredible rose variation!
We would recommend using watercolors for this picture, but you can get stunning results no matter which art tools and mediums you use.
